ORMOC CITY - Brgy. Liloan chair Cheryl Batucan was so thankful that the local office of the Department of Interior and Local Government continues to recognize the Lupon Tagapamayapa of her barangay as still the Best Lupon in the city, thus garnering the award for two consecutive years now.
Batucan, in an interview during the awarding of this year's Best Lupon winners held recently at the Placido Enecio Hall, said that she is hoping her Lupon would make it to the regional winner because they were only a runner-up last year.
She disclosed that last year, they only lost by a fraction of point to a barangay in Southern Leyte in the regional contest of the Best Lupon Tagapamayapa.
Ormoc City Mayor Eric C. Codilla, who distributed the awards and prizes of the contest, said that he was happy that most of the barangay chairmen attended the awarding ceremony.
The mayor also congratulated those who made it again as chairperson like Chairman Rafael Fernandez of Brgy. Don Felipe Larrazabal, and said he was sorry that some of them failed in their reelection bid like Chairman Maximo Jaballa of Brgy. Tambulilid.
Mayor Codilla stressed that the Lupon Tagapamayapa is a big help to the justice system of the country because when there is a problem in the community the Lupon could settle the problem at the barangay level.
He added that the settlement done in the barangay would also reduce the number of cases that are filed at the local courts.
Nonetheless, Mayor Codilla pointed out that most of the cases tried by the Lupon were settled peacefully and amicably.
Liloan, who bagged this year's Best Lupon Tagapamayapa award in the city, received a cash prize of P10,000. Second-placer Brgy. Tambulilid got a prize of P7,000 while third-placer Brgy. Bagong Buhay received P5,000 in cash prize.
Barangays that received consolation prizes of P1,000 each were Maticaa, Doña Feliza, Sto. Niño, Punta, Libertad, Don Felipe Larrazabal, Luna, Can-adieng, Alta Vista, and Lao.
